Look, we get it. Your phone is ringing. And you’re totally awesome because you have the latest from Beyonce as a custom ringtone. You and a million other Beyonce fans (including Kanye West). A custom ringtone isn’t custom if everyone else has it and you still have to remember which contact each song is associated with. Total hassle … why bother?

Kanye-West-FINAL “Imma let you finish, but AutoRingtone is the best ringtone of all time!”

Enter AutoRingtone PRO [iTunes]. You type … the app talks … in over 20 voices! You can have unique spoken Caller ID for every single one of your contacts and choose from a wide variety of voices including UK, USA, Male, Female, Robot, Space Alien or even synthesized singing voices, like T-Pain AutoTune-style! You’ll be the only one with that ringtone, for shizzle, my nizzle!

AutoRingtone-Title

Hmmm … custom user-generated ringtones? Uh, this could get crazy cool … everything from professional to hilariously obscene!

>> “Hey baby, your phone is ringing. Your lovely wife is calling”
>> “Imma let you finish but your phone is ringing. Your home girl, Taylor, is calling”
>> “Batman, your phone is ringing. Robin is calling”
>> “Hey Pimp Daddy, your phone is ringing. Your number one sweetie is calling”

See that … the possibilities are endless. And check it … no censorship. Just select one of the 20+ voices … enter your name, the caller’s name and your email address … hit the create button … then retrieve your personalized ringtone by visiting AutoRingtone.com. Your ringtone generates in the following format:

YOUR NAME, your phone is ringing
CALLER NAME is calling
YOUR NAME, please answer the phone

AutoRingtone-1 AutoRingtone-2

AutoRingtone PRO is even holding a contest for the funniest ringtones. Just send them (info@NoTieSoftware.com) the ringtone file you created and you can win prizes like iPhone cases, earbuds, headsets, chargers, and more.

And some info for you techie geeks … not only are ringtones provided in the iPhone format (.m4r), but also .aiff – so people who use other phones (there are other phones?) can convert them for their device. Very freaking sweet!

Anti-Krapps-Seal-v2GIF AutoRingtone PRO is unlimited. Meaning if you have 10 contacts – you pay one price. 100 contacts? 1,000? … still the same low price. But heads up … the AutoRingtone PRO edition, which has 20+ voices (and counting), will be going up in price after the first update which will allow completely custom messages. Think “freestyle” – it speaks whatever you type, so like … “Dude, warning! Your mother-in-law is calling. DO NOT ANSWER THE FREAKING PHONE!”. So jump on this 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified app at the current low price of $1.99 in the iTunes App Store.

Greetings and thanks for your interest! I'm the developer of AutoRingtone!

    1) Apple does not allow custom alerts for TEXT (SMS/MMS) alerts, however they did not always allow custom ringtones either. So perhaps that will change.

    2) You might be able to use custom sound files for alerts if you jailbreak your iPhone… but I don't recommend jailbreaking. In fact, we provide both the iPhone .m4r format soundfile as well as .aiff, so you should be able to use the ringtones with NON-Apple phones, depending on the manufacturer.

    3) Regardless, the current version of the app creates a message like “_yourname_ your phone is ringing. _caller_ is calling. _yourname_ please answer the phone.” The next version (free update) of AutoRingtone PRO (which Apple JUST emailed me saying that they're reviewing the upgrade right now) will allow for 100% customizable messages. When that is approved, the price will go up.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your interest.

Customizable messages will be great. Also, some suggestions for the next version:
    1) Why make the user go to the website to download the ringtone? I already gave you my email address, just email it to me.
    2) Is there anyway to install a ringtone without syncing thru iTunes? Since I use Google Sync, I rarely connect a cable to my iPhone. Not that big a deal.
    3) Any more voices coming out?

    Thanks, Jon

    Hi John,

Thanks for the feedback. We also make 100sounds, the #1 Sound FX app that ALSO gives you 100's of ringtones at no extra charge.

What we found over the past year is:

    1) Emails get blocked by spam filters, etc., and users get frustrated. It's out of our hands but it causes a lot of frustration on both ends.

    2) Many users get carried away and create HUNDREDS of ringtones at a time, just playing with the voices. With 20+ voices, and customizable messages, you could easily have 100 emails! Instead, you go to the website and pick the ones you really liked.

    3) We ask for your email but frankly it's just a unique placeholder/login. You could type something else and it still works this way.

    4) Unfortunately, Apple ONLY allows ringtones to be installed by iTunes, on your Mac or PC. So since you have to sit down at your PC/Mac to install them, it shouldn't be much of an extra step to use the web to download the ones you want. But we're always open to suggestions!

    5) Yes, I'm preparing our first “survey” which asks users what voices to add next. We're thinking of Scottish or Irish. Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your interest!

Good news! Apple just approved our update to AutoRingtone PRO last night!

Now you can choose AUTOMATIC or MANUAL modes! With Manual, you can create completely custom messages, and have them spoken in 20+ voices, with more on the way!

  • Jon

Hey no tie person, nice update. It is indeed much better.

However, the user interface for the “manual” mode is pretty awful. I'm sure I'm not the only person confused that in manual mode, you enter text in fields called “Name” and “Caller”. Changing the input field to one text entry box would lead to a LOT less user confusion.

I understand about email getting filtered, but I still would prefer it that way. Maybe do both – email it to the address provided and allow people to retrieve from the web site? Also, some people might not like the lack of privacy – anyone who knows my email address could get my ringtones.

Out of curiosity, whose text to speech software are you using? Thanks! Jon

  • No_Tie

    Jon,

Thanks. Yep, we'll work on the interface. Our primary focus is on making it easy for the Automatic users. I'm pretty proud of turning around a feature request within one week, and rather pleased with Apple for approving it within another week! But there's always room for improvement. We might change it to something like “LINE1” and “LINE2” when Manual mode is on. We also have some major functionality enhancements, including more voices, in the works.

Actually, re emails, we've got users who have created so many ringtones, they've asked us to remove them from the server, just so it's easier to sort through them (we're doing that manually, and will automate it soon). So if those had been individual emails, it would have been a real problem. Remember, we create two audio files for each request (iPhone .m4r and .aiff for non-Apple phones). When you combine how many people just experiment with different phrases, and voices, and then multiple contacts, we would be sending dozens if not hundreds of emails to a single user. Soon, the emails would be blocked and we'd be labeled spammers. So we need to find a balance.

Also, as stated before, you do NOT need to use your email address… just a unique identifier. So if you really don't want to share your email, you can do that, and maintain privacy.

Our technology is a trade secret, but we're using a combination of stock and commercial high quality voices.

    — Todd

  • Jon

    Todd-

OK, I give up on the email issue! 🙂 You're right, I can see how users will generate a lot of ringtones, I hadn't considered that. I hope my criticism was constructive, I think it's an excellent program and the improvements you've made are awesome. A little tweaking and it will be even awesome-er. Thanks, Jon

  • No_Tie

Thanks. Yes, the suggestions are definitely helpful and I hope to implement many of them. We've been delivering ringtones for about a year, with 100sounds, the #1 Sound FX app that also gives you 100's of ringtones, so I can say that email (bounces, typos, spam) is a major obstacle.

I hope you like the app (and post a good review on iTunes!!!)

  • I find most ringtone apps are bloatwear and take up way too much of your time than they should. I just use an audio app on the PC or Mac to great my tones and use a plugin to convert them into a format the phone can use, if needed.

    Jessica,

I agree and that's exactly why we created AutoRingtone. What passes as “ringtone apps” are just collections that someone else put together, often with a lot of “filler” to reach some magic number (1,001, 2,500, etc.). If you spend the time to play them all you might find 10 that are decent.

Instead, AutoRingtone creates EXACTLY the ringtones you want, especially with PRO which has 100% custom messages. No limits, no censorship, no filler.

For example, there is no ringtone collection in the world that has “Mister Todd, your lovely wife Sandra, is calling, from the university where she teaches Economics”.

Yet with AutoRingtone PRO, you can easily create an unlimited number of such unique ringtones. In seconds. And in 20+ voices (I like the British Woman). No extra software or skills needed. And since the iPhone uses ringtones for alarm clock alerts, you can create alerts like “Hey Todd, it's time to take your medicine”.

For $.99, it's a bargain. And AutoRingtone CYBER is FREE for Cyber Monday, appropriately enough!
