Wow, talk about product placement … this iPhone endorsement by Oksana Grigorieva on last week’s Larry King Live show is eerily perfect!

Last summer a series of taped phone calls between Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva were released … in which Mel goes off on his ex-girlfriend in a racist, profanity-laced tirade. Well it turns out Oksana used the native iPhone app “Voice Memos” to record those calls …

Larry: How are they [the recordings] so technically good?
Oksana: They’re not THAT good. It’s just…
Larry: They’re pretty good.
Oksana: Really?
Larry: Don’t you think? You had a home machine?
Oksana: No, it’s not a machine it’s an iPhone. There’s an application called Voice Memos… He – I use it for…
Larry: This is all from a little iPhone?
Oksana: It’s all from a little iPhone, yes.
Larry: You just sold a lot of iPhones. That’s pretty good quality.

I don't understand, how did she use “Voice Memo's” to record a phone call? I attempted to do this with my iPhone 4 and as soon as I answered the phone, Voice Memo's stopped recording and wouldn't start recording again until I hung-up the call.

Is this being done with a jailbroken iPhone?

  • Yeah, there is sort of a disconnect in her story. Thinking maybe she held the iPhone next to a land line phone or something … maybe Mel was on speaker phone?

I didn't watch the video. But when they were playing clips of the recordings on the news … I thought it almost sounded like they were messages he left on an answering machine, and that her voice was dubbed in. Cause she sounded too calm for being yelled at like that. Plus it seemed like the 2 voices never overlapped. Usually in a conversation, the 2 people accidentally talk at the same time once in a while.

  • It'll be interesting to see what the authorities uncover.

Yeah, my wife and I finally put that together that she must have had a speakerphone going with the iPhone recording. However, an iPhone or iPad both could have pulled off the recording part then. Nothing special there at all. The recording capabilities of the iPad and iPhone are amazing. The microphones used in the iPhone and iPad are really outstanding. I use the iPad as a recording device for a podcast I do. Granted, it's no PR40, but it beats the crap out of any of the USB microphone's I currently have.
