I’m pretty sick of color matching games in the App Store, but Dapple has revived my feelings for them. Dapple, from Streaming Colour Studios, is a color matching game with an excellent twist. You make matches by mixing paints around you to form new colors. For example if you have the color yellow by a green, the yellow color will mix into a green and form a match. In order to make a match you have to get a match of four or more.

Dapple-1    Dapple-2

At first you might not know how to play Dapple, but there are many tips and hints so you’ll learn quickly. Once you know how to play Dapple, it can be very fun and addicting.

There are a variety of modes in Dapple. If you want to relax you should choose the “Classic” mode. If you want a little challenge try “Timed”. Or if you have a friend both of you should try the 2 player mode. If you’re colorblind, no fear as you can change the colors to more suitable ones in the options menu.

Dapple-3

The thing you have to watch out in Dapple is the brown paint. If you have too much brown, it can quickly end your game. But the good thing is that you can use other colors to take out the brown paint. There are also powerups in Dapple. If you see a raindrop on the board, you can use it to eliminate large groups of colors. To use the raindrop you simply have to match it with another color. The other special item is a diamond. If you match it up, it will eliminate all the paint squares of the same color.

The soundtrack in Dapple is one of the best I’ve ever heard. It’s very soothing and would make anyone fall asleep (literally). The graphics are sharp, colorful and easy on the eyes. Another great thing about Dapple is that it will keep track of your personal high scores.

Dapple-4

Overall Dapple is one of the best color matching games on the App Store. I know the price ($4.99) might seem a bit steep, but you won’t regret Dapple’s purchase. If you have questions about Dapple, tweet @OwenGoss or email  info@streamingcolour.com.

Still in the doghouse because you forgot to do something nice for your sweetie on Valentine’s Day? Don’t actually have a sweetie and just want to woo the girl of your dreams? Some dude wrote a lame poem and stole your girlfriend from you?

Touch-Poet-Icon While you may feel like moaning and whining about it (or even blaming us why KRAPPS didn’t remind you it was Valentine’s Day or give our recommendation for the best pick-up line app), it would be more productive to quickly finish reading this little blurb and pick up the Touch Poet app to end your miseries. With Touch Poet, you can quickly generate a poem that Shakespeare or Edgar Allen Poe would be proud of. Using the actual words that these great men have left us, you can piece together a masterpiece of your own using Touch Poet. If these classics authors will leave them asking you “WTH??” go the “hip” route and generate words from DIGG articles and recent news. Once you have completed your work of art, Touch Poet allows you to tweet it on Twitter (it’s like broadcasting an ad … all the girls will come flocking to you) or just directly email it to the person. It’s just that easy with Touch Poet!

So what are you waiting for? Make your belated-Valentine’s Day gift now! Go win your woman back now! Go meet chicks! … all with the help of Touch Poet.

Binary Game App

The Binary Game is a new iPhone game just released last week by John Kassimatis at SayEight.com. Say Eight. Now from the title you might be thinking, “The Binary Game? What the heck is that? A bunch of ones and zeros?” But no, it’s an original game of binary math that makes you think while having a ton of fun.

BinaryGameScreen1

Gameplay goes like this: you have eight binary switches which you tap to turn ON or OFF. Each switch has a number above it, representing it’s value. When you tap the switch, the the number is added to your total at the top of the screen. Your job is to turn the right switches on to match the goal number at the top of the screen. The goal number is always between 1 and 255. So if the goal at the top is 10, you would press the 8 and 2 switches. These switches turn green when ON so you can see they are in use.

There are three game modes: Challenge, Speed and Timed. In Challenge Mode you start at level one and to work your way up. You have five goals to meet within a specific amount of time. Each level gives you less time to complete your five goals. Scoring is based on how quickly and accurately you meet the goal. But, if you make a mistake and turn on the wrong switch, you can turn it off. (I do this a lot!) In Speed Mode, you get 15 goals to meet and you are timed on how fast you go. In Practice Mode there are no timers or levels, but it’s great to help you learn patterns and increase your scores.

BinaryGameScreen2

So after playing this game quite a few times, I have to say I really like it. It gets your brain juices flowing and makes you want to challenge yourself to get a higher score. Not only does this game have a very nice in game scoreboard, but they also have online scoring.  Having the global scoreboard really makes you want to play again and again to get your scores shown. I would like to see the global high scores added to the in game scoreboard. The sounds in the game are simple and not annoying at all. I absolutely love the end of the game sound! There is no background music, but you can play your iPod music with no problems. The graphics are clean and easy to read. The switches turning green when on is a big help.

BinaryGameScreen3

All in all, I give this game 5 out of 5 stars (and judging by the outstanding user reviews in the App Store – everyone loves Binary Game). The developer put in a tremendous amount of work into this game and I can’t think of anything bad to say about it. This game is a keeper and a definite must buy! You will find yourself hopelessly tapping switches long into the night, checking to see if you made the Top 10 of the Day or the Top 75 of All Time scores.  Click here to purchase the Binary Game from iTunes at a bargain price of $1.99.

BurnBall and KRAPPS t-shirt contest – see end of article for details

DFH logo We at KRAPPS love a good beer. Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada, Fat Tire, Chimay … all good stuff and since these are “big boy” brewers, they should be available at a store near you. But what about the little guys – the microbreweries? Yeah, if you don’t make an effort and look a bit closer, you’ll miss gems like … Three Floyds, Bells, Speedway, Westvleteren, Victory, Dogfish Head and others … all tasty brews which are limited in production and distribution.

Hello! … KRAPPS! … Wake Up! … Focus! …. folks come here for iPhone talk and don’t really give a rats behind about beer >>> Wait for it … we have a point.

Point is, we all know and love the “big boy” app developers … EA Mobile, SEGA, Freeverse, gameloft, etc. All these guys pour 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified applications. But like our beer mantra … don’t miss out on the little guys … the microdevelopers!

Anti-Krapps-Seal-v2GIF One such “do not miss” microdeveloper is IMS and their awesome 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified iPhone game BurnBall. BurnBall is an arcade game where the player attempts to block off parts of the screen with the BurnBall character (his name is Roy) while avoiding evil robots. The soundtrack rocks, graphics are top-notch and it feels like you are transformed into the BurnBall Icon BurnBall comic book world. Once you block off 75% of the screen, you advance to the next level. Simple enough (there are three levels of difficulty – Easy, Hard and OMG) … but very addicting. IMG was genius to leverage Web 2.0 and introduce a BurnBall Facebook fan page coupled with an online community where worldwide BurnBall high scores are posted. For more BurnBall fun, check out the video:

anti-KRAPPS: EA Mobile

update 1/13/09: all SPORE download codes have been claimed – thank you

Ea_mobile_logo EA Mobile is the powerhouse of iPhone applications. Based near Los Angeles, in Playa Vista, California (Spanish for “ocean view” – yeah, no kidding – check out their insane building pictured below), seems these folks have the iMidasTouch – everything they touch, turns into iPhone gold.

Since the App Store opened in August 2008, EA Mobile has released eight iPhone apps, seven of which were ranked in the Top 50. At the time of this writing, five apps are still in the prestigious Top 50: Monopoly #6, Tetris #7, Scrabble #27, SimCity #36, Spore #45. Pretty freaking amazing and safe to say … all EA Mobile’s iPhone apps are 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified.

product-thumbnail_spore    product-thumbnail_sudoku    product-thumbnail_scrabble    product-thumbnail_ffootball

EA Mobile is a studio (yeah, the geeks got creative and coined the term “studio” rather than simply using “division”) of worldwide video game giant Electronic Arts (EA). EA launched their mobile games initiative in 2004. In 2006, EA acquired JAMDAT for $680 million (US$) and renamed the company EA Mobile. At the time, JAMDAT had 350 employees with locations worldwide: Los Angeles, Honolulu, Montreal, Tokyo, London, Bucharest and Hyderabad. The acquisition immediately positioned EA as the leading global player in the mobile video game market.

Anti-Krapps-Seal-v2GIF This year, EA Mobile will continue to strengthen their position in the market by releasing such highly anticipated iPhone games as Need for Speed Undercover and Tiger Woods 09. These apps are receiving huge buzz and are pretty much guaranteed to join their predecessors on the superbad Top 50 list, while receiving the 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified seal of approval. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an EA Mobile fart app … come on guys, do it … take that iMidasTouch of yours and release the Golden iFarts app … it would be epic!

anti-KRAPPS – TextLater

update 1/8/09: all TextLater download codes have been claimed – thank you

Oh krapps, I forgot to pick up my kid from school!
Oh krapps, I forgot to send that package to the winner of my eBay auction!
Oh krapps, I forgot to sign up for health insurance!
Oh krapps, I forgot to buy fish food!

textlatericon I am busy. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to complete my never-ending task/project list. Although I’m not a hip Google or Outlook Calendar geek (or a Day-Timer dork), I do manage to keep myself fairly well organized. However, similar to most people, I experience my share of “oh krapps” moments.

Well I’m happy to report that my share of “oh krapps” moments have drastically reduced thanks to the TextLater iPhone app. I use this app on a daily basis. In a nutshell, with TextLater, you can schedule text messages to be delivered on a specific date and time. Pretty simple concept, but for my purposes as a self-reminder, its pure genius. TextLater’s possibilities are endless:

textlaterscreen2 > Travel a lot on business? Send daily “Good Morning” texts to your loved one.
> Someone’s birthday? Schedule a “Happy Birthday” text to arrive on that special day.
> Do you suck at romance? Send periodic “I Love You” texts to your wife.
> Promised to deliver McDonald’s lunch to your child at school at noon? Send yourself a reminder at 11:00am.

Sure you can set self-reminders with the horrid native iPhone Calendar app and its lame chime alert … but why? For a mere 99 cents, TextLater is so much better, more convenient and provides greater functionality (not to mention the developer – Skidmore Apps –  just released a fantastic update which shows they are committed to continually improving the app). Heck, with daily “I Love You” text messages, it might be more effective and cheaper than marriage counseling.

FREE TextLater app to KRAPPS Viewers!

Skidmore Apps was kind enough to provide KRAPPS five promo codes which will allow our viewers to download TextLater for FREE. Be one of the first 5 readers to tweet on Twitter:

“got iPhone? visit KRAPPS! outing whacky, weird, stupid & strange apps for your entertainment. http://KRAPPS.com”

We will then direct message you the download code while supplies last. Make sure you follow us on Twitter – @KRAPPS – so we can direct message the code.
