Spock Is Craptastic

CopyCatJPG We find it hysterical when an app is released and then immediately there are a ton of “copy-apps” that attempt to jump on the bandwagon in efforts to cash-in on the original idea. Back in January, we covered the original iFart Mobile application, along with the 47 other copy-apps. Today there are approximately 400 fart related apps trying to emulate iFart Mobile’s success. Then in February we profiled the 50+ tic tac toe apps … really good stuff … Snowman Tic Tac Toe, Tom And Jerry Tic Tac Toe, Tic Tac MyToe, etc … yeah, big time yawners. Seems every original app idea is copied instantly … bikini girls, strip apps, dictionaries, pooping apps and the list goes on and on.

But sometimes, on rare occasion, the sequel is better than the original. Take for example the tired Rock Paper Scissors category filled with “same shiat, different day” selections. Or so we thought until we found these next two Rock Paper Scissors applications. Although they are completely strange and left-of-center, they have a certain weird and whack job appeal that intrigued us. It’s sort of like looking into the sun … you know you’re not supposed to do it … but damn it’s tempting (yes, A Bug’s Life reference).

We are huge fans of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. How can you not love it? … heck, just in tonight’s episode a Snuggie was gifted and tweeting bowel movements was mentioned – LOL. In a previous airing, the main characters put their geek spin on the classic rock paper scissors game, adding two additional variables … Rock, Paper, Scissors, LIZARD, SPOCK …

Figuring their Bling It app was not affording them early retirement, the devs at Momogeo jumped on the Bing Bang opportunity and created the Rock2Spock app. Trust us … in a category where the only difference between the assorted rock paper scissors apps is a slight app title variation (Rock Paper Scissor app … Rock-Paper-Scissor app …  Rock/Paper/Scissors app … Paper, Rock, Scissors app … etc) – Rock2Spock kicks major ass (even if it’s only geek ass).

Rock2SpockDesc

Rock2Spock1

Speaking of titles, this next app should be considered for purchase by its name alone …

Ben’s somewhat spiffy looking but ultimately craptastic rock-paper-scissors game

WTF is that?!? We did an article about obnoxiously long app names … but this Ben character forced us to make an exception to the rule. Spiffy Looking + Ultimately Craptastic = Brilliant! And we love the fact that these folks can laugh at themselves and be honest about yet another lame rock paper scissors app … “Three different play-modes (all of which feel exactly the same)” – “Rock, paper, scissors all in the same game!” – “Graphics!”

Ben

But hey … similar to Rock2Spock’s kick ass-ness … there is something kick ass (we like that phrase, can’t you tell) about a Monk who hurls insults at the user during gameplay. Plus check out the over-the-top, amped up on Red Bull and cotton candy, kick ass game trailer … all this theatrics for a rock paper scissors game. Love it!

App That Turns Your iPhone Into A PENIS

super_piipii_brothers Last year, ThinkGeek.com introduced a new Japanese game for the Wii called Super Pii Pii Brothers. For $34.99, you receive the game disc, Wiimote Harness and the promise of an amazing virtual pee experience. Gameplay is simple and straightforward … strap on the belt harness, attach the Wiimote and use your body to control the never-ending stream of pee into a series of toilets. If you manage to pee in a toilet, your score increases .. . pee on the floor, your score decreases. And of course the game, is strongly marketed to women, indicating that Super Pii Pii Brothers allows the ladies to “experience for the first time the pleasure of urinating while standing.” Watch the demo video below for a visual example.

So what do you think of Super Pii Pii Brothers? Yeah … ewww, gross, LOL, freaks, etc. Well guess what … it’s a gag – a fake … an April Fool’s Day joke. ThinkGeek has been doing this every year since 2001 – click here to view their past April 1 gags.

Well it might be a gross, freaky, ewww joke at ThinkGeek … but come on, we’re talking about Apple. One of the most powerful, profitable, innovative and well respected companies in the world. So we’re sure it wouldn’t surprise you that Apple has approved an app which turns your iPhone into a PENIS. Not only does your iPhone become a PENIS … but it simulates peeing while you are drunk. Amazing use of technology. Simply put your iPhone in your crotch area and hold it like a PENIS. But please remember … this is a high quality, virtual reality application … so DO NOT utilize this app while sitting down! Stand up and hold your PENIS (errrr … iPhone), then pee away into the target toilet.

What? You think we’re kidding? You think we are making this stuff up? You think that if it doesn’t fly at ThinkGeek, it certainly shouldn’t be cool with Apple? Haaa … you are wrong … just look below at the Drunk Sniper app’s description.

WTF?!?! Love how the dev scream in ALL CAPS … TURN YOUR IPHONE INTO MALE BODY ORGAN!!!” … LOL – what? Apple actually censored the word PENIS?!? Congrats Apple … you’ve come a long way, but man you’ve got some strange fetishes!

And of course, we must appeal to the ladies! Love the positioning on this. Like Drunk Sniper is the Dr. Phil of apps. It’s either beautiful sarcasm or someone’s shit don’t stink – LOL.

Ow My Balls! – Brings Epic Nutshots To Your iPhone

Imagine our delight when we came across this new app – Ow My Balls! by Jetson Creative. Our eyes got really big and a huge grin covered our face. Sweet, got our next casualty … the Ow My Balls! iPhone app … this ought to be a load of KRAPPS. So we strapped on our Nutty Buddy cojones protector and proceeded with caution to explore the world of Ow My Balls!

OMBdesc

AppleKickNuts But tell you what … Ow My Balls! pissed us off. Why? Because it’s freaking hysterical … well made – high quality … outstanding hand-drawn graphics … and contains hilarious custom recorded sound effects. Screw you Ow My Balls!? – you suck … jacked up our KRAPPS article serving up this fine piece of app wizardry … come here for a nut shot.

So in a nutshell (no pun intended) … Ow My Balls! is an iPhone game centered around the mishaps of Joe The Juggler. The game begins by kicking Juggler Joe off the ledge of a tall building (why he’s there in the first place, who knows, dude has a death wish or something) – obviously a painful kick as he immediately cries out – “OW MY BALLS!” … hey, if you were a juggler and lost your balls, you’d be sad and cry out too.

screen_2     screen_3

So as Joe falls, using the iPhone’s accelerometer, the user attempts to hit various obstacles and have Joe travel the longest distance possible before making impact with the ground. And that poor Juggler Joe. When he finally hits the pavement – he receives another epic nut shot and understandably, firmly clutches his sack in dismay and declares –
“OW MY BALLS!”.

screen_1    screen_4

To score points, simply hit obstacles. To travel greater distances, ignite fart jetpacks (yes – FART JETPACKS) which will allow Joe to increase his altitude, thus going farther. And if you really kick butt (errrr – kick balls), you can ultimately become a Ball Master (sort of like a Jedi Master, but better).

And get this … to our knowledge … a iPhone game “first”. You have the ability to record your own “OW MY BALLS!” moan …. or your fart … or various impact sounds. Too freaking cool – an iPhone game featuring your own voice and fart. Rock on!

So as we said – this game completely sick (in a good way, like phat)! High quality build, user-friendly controls, hand-drawn urbanesque graphics, custom recorded sounds, ridiculous value at 99 cents and best of all … absolutely pant pissing hysteria! Because bottom line … although getting hit in the nards hurts – it’s funny (especially as a viewer and not the recipient) … maybe it’s a guy thing – maybe it’s a MTV Johnny Knoxville Jackass thing … but nut shots combined with quality programming are a crack up and if you don’t think so, go buy yourself a sense of humor – heard they’re on sale this week at Walmart! If you already have a sense of humor, check out Jetson’s hysterical video below (pay attention to the end, dude really get’s hit in the nuts when it was supposed to be a fake pop – LOL)

Anti-Krapps-Seal-v2GIF Back with a sense of humor? Good! Click here to purchase Ow My Balls! for only 99 cents. Totally worth it!

Obviously a lot of time and effort was put into the creation of Ow My Balls! and it shows throughout this brilliant slap-stick humor application. We can’t even imagine the nut shots Jetson Creative had to endure from Apple to get something like this approved … but tell you what … glad they have a high pain tolerance and certainly deserve the claim 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified!

cactus-hugJPG We decided to check up on these kooks at Jetson Creative and discovered something really cool … a community thing … an iPhone developer thing. Over on their blog, Jetson Creative documented every step of Ow My Balls! creation … from Conception to Completion … it’s like a blueprint for constructing an iPhone app, with valuable information and insights. Very cool of Jetson Creative for sharing the knowledge with fellow and future developers … whole lotta love and good karma going on at Jetson … guess we take back our nut shot comment and just give them a hug. You should give these kind folks a hug too (crap we are freaking sappy-lame), click here to buy the app and give Jetson a virtual hug.

Exercise Your Brain With Binary Game

EinsteinBinaryGame Back in February, we profiled the Binary Game iPhone application and declared it 100% anti-KRAPPS certified. Binary Game is a simple, yet highly addictive original game of binary math. It makes you think while having a ton of fun. Click here to read our original Binary Game review. In March, Binary Game was included in the first “phase” of Facebook Connect apps, which allowed users to post their scores directly to their Facebook feed.

We’ve been huge fans of Binary Game since its inception as the game is unique, challenging and loads of fun. Plus we noticed something really cool since we began playing Binary Game … we became SMARTER! Something about getting your brain juices flowing during game play must have had a positive impact on our noggin’, cuz seriously … we are SMARTER!

bg-daily Binary Game had a recent update, so we thought we would pass along the info. There has been a complete redesign with new graphics and interface … we like, it’s tight! There is a new element to the game … the Daily Challenge mode. This new mode is the most competitive to date. It plays like Speed Mode (where you must complete 15 consecutive rounds as fast as possible), but can be played only once per day. You have one shot per day to chest-thump your superiority over other Binary Game players … no re-do’s or starting over. Freaking intense! So now, along with the Online Leader Board, there is also a Daily Mode Scoreboard.

And saving the best for last … Binary Game is now half off! Click here to purchase Binary Game now for only 99 cents … price should go back to it’s original $1.99 this weekend. Kind of a no-brainer … as we’d rather spend 99 cents to become SMARTER than drop for 9 bucks on some hair care app that promises healthier hair, LOL.

Rogue Touch Rocks

RogueTouchLogo Breathing new life into a 30 year old game, the recently released Rogue Touch (by ChronoSoft) is a port of the venerable game of Rogue to the iPhone/iPod Touch. Rogue was one of the first graphical computer games and has a storied past of being ported to just about every platform since its release in 1980. The goal of the game is to descend 26 levels into a dungeon to retrieve an amulet and then return to the surface. No walk in the park, you will confront a menacing array of monsters along the way.

Rogue Touch utilizes the same style of dungeon layout as the original, while offering many new and updated features. Movement in the game is via touching the sides of the screen or by calling up a virtual arrow pad. I started playing in the touch mode, since that is the default, but once I switched to the D-pad, I found that I actually liked that interface better.

RogueTouch1    RogueTouch2

The graphics have an old school feel, an homage to the great graphical games of the past. My favorite of the monsters that I have encountered is the skeleton, even though I haven’t yet been able to get past it. Also high on the list of bad things to run into are the slimes. If you don’t make quick work of a slime, you will soon find yourself surrounded by them as the split and multiply quickly. The only graphic that I found out of place was the dungeon walls, which have crenellations atop them, only really appropriate for an above ground structure.

The music in Rogue Touch is quite good. A rousing introduction gives way to a great set of ambient sounds, which appeared to change based on the monsters that were present. If you tire of the damp, drippy dungeon sounds, you can always play your own iPod music and turn off the music/sound in the game. The settings are presented within the Settings application, so make sure you get everything set up before loading up the game.

RogueTouch4    RogueTouch3

To date, I’ve only survived into level six. Since the dungeon layout is randomized each time you start a new game, you can’t rely on previous knowledge to guide you. Sometimes the next set of stairs down is nearby and sometimes it is not. In the later levels, you will find rooms that are shrouded in darkness, so you might miss treasure or a monster if you don’t fully explore. Often, you will catch a monster napping. If you are lucky, they won’t wake up and you can scoot by them.

During one of my games I descended into a room with only one door that led to a dead-end hallway. I crawled every inch looking for a hidden door, but was unable to find one. Not sure if it was a program bug, or if I just happened to miss the correct square to search.

Some of the updates that are specific to this port are additional monsters, an auto-map that comes in very handy when trying to figure out where the last room on a level is, and in later levels, the ability to uncover additional character types to play (I have yet to find myself worthy).

All in all, Rogue Touch is a worthwhile addition to the iPhone. A nostalgic game  with plenty of updates that take advantage of the premier mobile gaming device.

EDITOR’S NOTE: yeah – what Tim said! we love well made, high quality old school tribute games … and Rogue Touch does total justice to the original 1980 ASCII version. Oh – and make sure you check out the Worldwide Leaderboard and dedicated Discussion Forums. Rogue Touch rocks and is absolutely
100% anti-KRAPPS Certified.

Minimalism is a beautiful thing. In the iPhone game world, minimal games can work brilliantly. Belowscape, from 10tons, is one of these minimal games. It is a Geometry Wars type game where you navigate your triangle space ship while shooting the various shapes that appear.

Simple as that. Minimalism.

There are no power ups, no bosses, no bombs. Just try to rack up your score for as long as you can with 3 lives. No overly-complicated soundtrack in the background. Just sounds of you shooting stuff and the sound the enemies exploding as they die. Simple and smooth menu navigation that will eventually lead you to either the “Survival” or “Rush” modes.

What impressed me about the game were the options for the control system – they are customizable! You can pick from either touching the target, tilting the device, or using either a left or right joystick (and you can choose to use any of these schemes for navigation or shooting!!) This makes for many different combinations of control configurations to choose from. And to satisfy your competitive nature, there is a online Global Scoreboard where you can see how you rank against others players worldwide.

So if you’re looking for the beauty of minimalism and something easy to play (thus avoiding a high difficulty curve that will leave you wanting to chuck your iphone/ipod at the wall), Belowscape is the game for you. Click here to purchase Belowscape for $2.99.

antikrappssealv2gif EDITOR’S NOTE: We love minimalism … it truly is a form of beautiful art. There is enough chaos in everyone’s daily life that sometimes it’s therapeutic just to chill and enjoy and straight forward shoot ‘em up arcade game. Top that off with very cool customizable user controls … well that easily makes Belowscape 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified.

With new platforms for gaming, comes new genres of games to play. I don’t know if any one has named this new genre yet, so I’m going to. And here it is: Chain Reaction Games. I have reviewed one of these type of games already and that was Sneezies. Now, we have another game to add to that list and it’s called Bugz from Didev Studios.

Bugz1

Bugz is a great mix of skill and luck. The goal of the game is to pop as many Bugz as you can. When you touch a Bug, it pops creating a circle of color that gets larger and then smaller. When other Bugz touch this circle of color, they will pop as well creating a chain reaction. When you start each level, you are given a goal number of Bugz to pop. In higher levels there are enemy Bugz that you have to pop as well as a certain number of regular Bugz. Also, there are flower obstacles that get in the way of the bugz and slow them down. These obstacles can make the game more difficult when you are trying to get those hard to pop enemy Bugz.

Bugz3

What’s great about Bugz? It’s got a lot to offer players. 102 levels of gameplay should keep you busy for quite a while. If you have other people who like to use your iDevice, they can store their game on the multiple profiles that are included. That solves a lot of problems when you have various people wanting their own game. For the competitive, there is a Global Scoreboard so you can compare your bug popping skills with the rest of the world. The custom made in game soundtrack is fun and easy to listen to. You have the option to play your own iPod music as well. The graphics are good with no slow downs or freezeups.

Bugz2

My overall impression of Bugz: A fun game that will have you popping bugz for days on end. There’s lots of levels to keep you interested and enemies add a new twist to the new Chain Reaction genre. Addictive and challenging gameplay is always a winner in my book. And this game has both. Just don’t get too frustrated and throw your iDevice when you can’t meet the goal on those higher levels. Click here to to Bugz from the App Store for the low low price of 99 cents.

antikrappssealv2gif EDITOR’S NOTE: Haaaa! Carolyn is brilliant! She/We coin the phrase … Chain Reaction games …. haaaa! … so remember, you heard on KRAPPS first – we’ll see which posers attempt to steal our claim … haaaa! And of course, Bugz … for 99 cents, you can’t go wrong. Give it a whirl and experience for yourself this 100% anti-KRAPPS Certified app.
