I’m pretty sick of color matching games in the App Store, but Dapple has revived my feelings for them. Dapple, from Streaming Colour Studios, is a color matching game with an excellent twist. You make matches by mixing paints around you to form new colors. For example if you have the color yellow by a green, the yellow color will mix into a green and form a match. In order to make a match you have to get a match of four or more.

Dapple-1    Dapple-2

At first you might not know how to play Dapple, but there are many tips and hints so you’ll learn quickly. Once you know how to play Dapple, it can be very fun and addicting.

There are a variety of modes in Dapple. If you want to relax you should choose the “Classic” mode. If you want a little challenge try “Timed”. Or if you have a friend both of you should try the 2 player mode. If you’re colorblind, no fear as you can change the colors to more suitable ones in the options menu.

Dapple-3

The thing you have to watch out in Dapple is the brown paint. If you have too much brown, it can quickly end your game. But the good thing is that you can use other colors to take out the brown paint. There are also powerups in Dapple. If you see a raindrop on the board, you can use it to eliminate large groups of colors. To use the raindrop you simply have to match it with another color. The other special item is a diamond. If you match it up, it will eliminate all the paint squares of the same color.

The soundtrack in Dapple is one of the best I’ve ever heard. It’s very soothing and would make anyone fall asleep (literally). The graphics are sharp, colorful and easy on the eyes. Another great thing about Dapple is that it will keep track of your personal high scores.

Dapple-4

Overall Dapple is one of the best color matching games on the App Store. I know the price ($4.99) might seem a bit steep, but you won’t regret Dapple’s purchase. If you have questions about Dapple, tweet @OwenGoss or email  info@streamingcolour.com.

A New King Of KRAPPS

It all started so innocently about 2 months ago. KRAPPS launched on Christmas Day 2008 and began spotlighting such KRAPPS as Amulet (wear your iPhone as a necklace app), Ringr Roulette (app that encourages drunk dialing) and Hold The Button (objective is to press a button and never let go, ever). Ha! – Ha! It was all fun and games way back then. They were lame apps – we laughed at them – pointed out their stupidity – and moved on.

stinkyphone But then certain Benchmark Apps arrived – historic apps that changed the landscape of the App Store forever. Groundbreaking apps we guess, which left us scratching our heads in disbelief. It started with the granddaddy of KRAPPS, Fart apps. Then the bar was raised with Boobie Jiggling apps. Next up were the magnificent Peeing apps. And just this week, we reached a new  pinnacle with Spanking apps. Uhhh, so we thought …

Yesterday an app so krapptastic appeared it immediately made us forget about spanking apps. We’ve moved on to something bigger and better … introducing the new King Of KRAPPS … Peep Show. Say it again … Peep Show. One more time … PEEP SHOW.

PeepShowScreen1     PeepShowScreen2

ahhh, Peep Show. Mister Jobs – seriously – WTF?!?! We are now totally convinced that someone at Apple has a screw loose. Steeeeeve! Duuuuude! This is getting  embarrassing … come on Apple, is this really what you want to sell … an app where you  stick a coin in the slot, have the curtain go up and reveal scantily clad women? Nothing against scantily clad women – we love them too – but offering this as a product from Apple? madonna-2 Are you guys thinking straight? Do we really need to come up to the Mothership and explain why approving this app is an epic FAIL?!?! And to classify it as a game suitable for 9+ year olds … Steeeeeve! Duuuuude! … trust me, no decent parent on Earth would want their 9-year old (4th graders) playing with the Peep Show app (well if they did, we’d bitch slap them with the iFight app). And more … just look at the app’s description filled with terms like “hotties”, “many women to oogle” and “hot women” (it will not surprise us if some group applies pressure on Apple to pull this KRAPPS – where are the #MotrinMoms):

PeepShowDesc

Finally, for even more Peep Show amusement – click here to check out the Peep Show discussion thread on touchArcade. We’ll conclude with a few excerpts:

Seriously? Apple rejected the South Park app but allowed peep show!

When I saw this app, I threw up in my mouth a little.

This game is an epic phail! And a crapp.

This is a new low really.

Binary Game App

Title: Binary Game

The Binary Game is a new iPhone game just released last week by John Kassimatis at SayEight.com. Say Eight. Now from the title you might be thinking, “The Binary Game? What the heck is that? A bunch of ones and zeros?” But no, it’s an original game of binary math that makes you think while having a ton of fun.

BinaryGameScreen1

Gameplay goes like this: you have eight binary switches which you tap to turn ON or OFF. Each switch has a number above it, representing it’s value. When you tap the switch, the the number is added to your total at the top of the screen. Your job is to turn the right switches on to match the goal number at the top of the screen. The goal number is always between 1 and 255. So if the goal at the top is 10, you would press the 8 and 2 switches. These switches turn green when ON so you can see they are in use.

There are three game modes: Challenge, Speed and Timed. In Challenge Mode you start at level one and to work your way up. You have five goals to meet within a specific amount of time. Each level gives you less time to complete your five goals. Scoring is based on how quickly and accurately you meet the goal. But, if you make a mistake and turn on the wrong switch, you can turn it off. (I do this a lot!) In Speed Mode, you get 15 goals to meet and you are timed on how fast you go. In Practice Mode there are no timers or levels, but it’s great to help you learn patterns and increase your scores.

BinaryGameScreen2

So after playing this game quite a few times, I have to say I really like it. It gets your brain juices flowing and makes you want to challenge yourself to get a higher score. Not only does this game have a very nice in game scoreboard, but they also have online scoring.  Having the global scoreboard really makes you want to play again and again to get your scores shown. I would like to see the global high scores added to the in game scoreboard. The sounds in the game are simple and not annoying at all. I absolutely love the end of the game sound! There is no background music, but you can play your iPod music with no problems. The graphics are clean and easy to read. The switches turning green when on is a big help.

BinaryGameScreen3

All in all, I give this game 5 out of 5 stars (and judging by the outstanding user reviews in the App Store – everyone loves Binary Game). The developer put in a tremendous amount of work into this game and I can’t think of anything bad to say about it. This game is a keeper and a definite must buy! You will find yourself hopelessly tapping switches long into the night, checking to see if you made the Top 10 of the Day or the Top 75 of All Time scores.  Click here to purchase the Binary Game from iTunes at a bargain price of $1.99.

Anti-Krapps-Seal-v2GIF EDITORS NOTE:  This article represents the views of the author and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of KRAPPS. However, we totally agree with Carolynn and just love this app! It’s unique, challenging, loads of fun, doesn’t get boring and beats the snot out of fart apps. WordsWorth App

Judging by it’s title, you would probably guess that WordsWorth is a word game. Now I’m a puzzle game freak, but my word game collection is minimal. WordsWorth will change your mind about word games. It’s brought to you by the fine folks at 99 Games Inc.

img_0001

Game play is simple … trace the letters that make a word or touch each letter individually and press submit. The screen will show you as you trace if you have created a word or not (that’s great for finding those obscure words you didn’t think existed). When you’ve reached a certain score, you go to the next level. There are various helper tiles that appear during the game. There is also a red tile that is a timer. If you don’t use it before time runs out, it’s game over. Now there are two game modes, Classic and Timed. In Classic Mode, your game ends when a timer tile’s clock runs out. In Timed Mode, you have a certain amount of time to finish the level. If time runs out, well, you know what happens.

img_0002

What’s great about this game is that you can customize it in many ways. You can make the board bigger, change dictionaries (they use TWL, SOWPODS, and ENABLE), adjust the minimum word size or change the background and sound effect settings. There are lots of extras – Wild tiles, Bonus Point tiles, Shuffle tiles and additional shuffles in the game to help you when you are hopelessly stuck. It also saves your current game for those times when you need to do something more important. All these features make this game very replayable. You can make it as easy or as hard as you want. I find the music very relaxing. The graphics are highly polished and you can tell a lot of work has been put into this game.

What’s not so great: of course I’d like to see a global scoreboard, because who doesn’t like to compete for the best score in the game? I’d also like to see a word list added so you can see what words you played or a best word page on the scoreboard listing highest scoring words, etc. The music is nice, but a bit repetitive. I’d like to see a variety of music added.

img_0004

All in all, I rate this game 5 of 5 stars. It’s addictive, has endless replayability and will change your mind about word games. The developers are always working on updates and listen to suggestions to make WordWorth even better. If you don’t have it yet, what are you waiting for? It’s currently available in the App Store for $1.99.

Section 3.3.12

Title: iStrip
Category: Entertainment

update: all download codes have been claimed – thank you

banging-head2 The developers are Rock Cottage Industries have bumps, cuts and bruises on their heads. Why? … because for months they’ve been banging their heads against the hard walls of their rock cottage. Why? … because sometimes the app approval process is painfully long, frustrating and simply unfair.

The Rock Cottage boys specialize in iPhone clock apps – Tokyo Time, Crazy Clock, Black Clocks and White Clock are their products. And like many, they noticed a distinct “shift” in Apple’s approval standards … think farts, vomit, pee, boobies and other KRAPPS. So with Apple opening this “Approval Door”, the boys attempted to jam their way into the App Store based on nostalgia … a vintage strip pen.

vintage-strip-pen2

But not so fast … Apple slammed the door on the Rock boys and thus the head banging therapy. But can you blame them? Farts and Jiggling Boobies are approved – but not a vintage bathing suit model strip pen? Come on … iStrip provides significant historical and educational value – I think? But Apple didn’t see it that way … boobies can jiggle, but iStrip was rejected based on Section 3.3.12 of the iPhone SDK Agreement:

“Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgement may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.”

Ok … slow down sparky and your Section 3.3.12! You mean to tell me the approved Bikini Blast app with their girls gone wild models is not objectionable but the iStrip app with their vintage 60’s bathing suit model is offensive content? What a bunch of KRAPPS!

Bikini Blast      iStrip Rejected

Well this Section 3.3.12 nonsense does have a happy ending. It seems all that head banging was worth it as a light bulb went off inside the Rock boys’ bruised up heads: more clothes, make it a game (not an entertainment app), classify the game as age 9+ and change the title to “iStrip – Novelty App”. Guess what? … It worked!

iStrip-1     iStrip-2

Congrats to Rock Cottage Industries for their perseverance and “Never Say Die” attitude. The App Store is a better place now with iStrip – Novelty App in it. (hint, hint: iStrip allows the user to load custom clothing from the camera roll … the possibilities are endless)

Simply Disturbing

Title: iBouncer
Category: Games

heidi_klum_12WEB Look … I’m the first one who can appreciate a simple paddle ball breakout app, but there is something quite disturbing about bouncing a dog’s head around on your iPhone screen. Thinking I’ll probably avoid sharing this app with little ones as  it might cause long term ill effects in children. Not sure if  the developer is either a dog  lover or a cat lover – guess an argument can be made either way.  Honestly, I would rather play bouncing Oprah or Rush Limbaugh heads … or how about bouncing Bill Gates and Steve Jobs heads … mmmm, bouncing Heidi Klum heads.

iBouncerScreen     iBouncerScreenB

And on a final note, bravo to the developer for this genius piece of marketing fluff:

Like Texas Hold’em, iBouncer is a game that takes only a minute to learn, but a lifetime to master!

Whoah, slow down there sparky! You must be confused with brain surgery or rocket science. Texas Hold’em does NOT take a minute to learn (mental note – invite developer to next poker tournament) and iBouncer does NOT take a lifetime to master. I can see it now … coming soon to ESPN … World Series Of iBouncer.
